“Promotion and distribution in the MERCOSUR: new multi-platform tools”

The third SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) workshop organized by the Program MERCOSUR AUDIOVISUAL (PMA), with financing from the European Union and the Mercosur, will be held in Montevideo, Uruguay, from 21 to 23 July 2012. Its title is Promotion and Distribution in the MERCOSUR: new multi-platform tools. The workshop will last for three days and there will be a total of 24 hours of activities. It is aimed at forty professionals from small and medium enterprises in the audiovisual sector that operate in the Mercosur.

The workshop will be held in the ambit of Encuentro de Televisoras DOCMONTEVIDEO co-organized by the Uruguayan Cinema and Audiovisual Institute (ICAU), Montevideo City Council (IMM) and DocMontevideo. Registration is free of charge. Due to limited capacity there will be a selection process based on the information on the applicants’ registration forms (download here).

We are open for registrations until 21 June 2012. The results of the selection process will be sent by e-mail in the first week of July.

The Program Mercosur Audiovisual (PMA) is part of the Specialized Meeting of Cinema and Audiovisual Authorities of the MERCOSUR (RECAM), which is the MERCOSUR consultative body in the cinema and audiovisual field. It is made up of national government authorities in charge of in this area.

The executive body of the program is the Argentine National Institute of Cinema and Audiovisual Arts (INCAA), and the financing is from the European Union and the MERCOSUR.

 

Aims of the Workshop

To provide conceptual tools and concrete experiences for promoting and distributing films on different platforms.

 

Contents of the Workshop

An introduction to promotion and distribution including the traditional model and new integrated strategies for multi-platforms, analog distribution, digital distribution, and transmedia promotion and distribution.

During the workshop the participants will draft a distribution and promotion plan, integrated into the development of a transmedia project that will link video games, VOD, the development of interactive portals and the use of social networks.

The presentations during the three days will offer new perspectives about production and distribution that will serve as inputs for the practical work to be done.

Sabrina Nudeliman (EloCompany, Brazil) will be the main workshop monitor and will guide the participants through the practical activities.

Strategies for niche promotion and multi-platform distribution, with Matthew Meschery (ITVS, USA).

The development of transmedia projects and their migration on different platforms, with Hugues Sweeney and Dominique Willieme (NFB, Canada).

Sabrina Nudeliman
Sabrina Nudeliman ponente DocMontevideo

Sabrina Nudeliman (Brazil) is the co-founder, executive director and strategy chief at ELO Company, a Brazilian audiovisual content distribution and diffusion agency with more than 50 clients all over the world. It handles a wide range of platforms including shows and festivals, cinema auditoriums, TV, airplanes and digital media in Brazil. The company has 18 digital channels on Internet, ELO Channels, and it has a catalogue of more than 2,000 items including the best Brazilian contents and other international material.

Gonzalo Frasca
Gonzalo Frasca ponente DocMontevideo

Gonzalo Frasca (Uruguay) Is a developer of video games, a researcher and a businessman. He co-founded Powerful Robot, a Uruguay-based video game development studio and Chair of Videogames studies at ORT University. He has created video games for a wide range of clients including Cartoon Network, Pixar, Warner Bros., Disney, Mattel and Lucasfilm. His areas of experience include game design, digital journalism and training for children. He frequently gives talks at events and universities throughout the world. He has also shown his games in galleries and museums in Europe, the United States, Israel, Japan, Brazil and Australia.

Matthew Meschery
Matthew Meschery ponente DocMontevideo

Matthew Meschery (United States) is director of digital initiatives at ITVS, where he supervises the development of material for new media. He is a specialist in the development of cross-media strategies and technological solutions for film makers and artistic organizations. He is one of the main architects of an internal ITVS initiative to support independent film makers in creating original content for Internet, and also developing sub-products of their documentaries for new platforms. This initiative has financed media makers in the whole country that are creating a wide range of new material.

Hugues Sweeney
Hugues Sweeney ponente DocMontevideo

Hugues Sweeney (Canada) has been executive producer for interactive productions at the National Film Board de Canada since 2009. Before that he was multimedia project chief at Bande à Part and programming head at Espace Musique. His interactive projects made at NFB have won numerous international prizes including the SXSW, Japan Media Arts, Boomerang and d’o FIPA, and he was nominated for the IDFA Digital Emmy and the Géminis o la Gémeaux. He studied philosophy at the Dominican College of Philosophy and Theology in Ottawa, and studied multimedia at the University of Quebec.

Dominique Willieme
Dominique Willieme ponente DocMontevideo

Dominique Willieme (Canada) is a producer of interactive projects at the National Film Board. Since 2007 he has been working on interactive content production. Previously he was a consultant to communication companies and editor of various online pop culture projects. He had a hand in the creation of new training at the publisher Fresh Media (Paris, France) and subsequently joined the French channel ARTE as editor in chief for online content and new platforms.

 

Daniel Corro
Daniel Corro ponente DocMontevideo

Daniel Corro (Chile) is the digital platforms editor at TVN Programming Direction and is responsible for TVN Online content. Previously he was head of the Transmedia Unit of Programming Direction and executive secretary of TVN Media for media convergence. He has worked as a producer of material linked to TV programs on digital platforms in the fields of general entertainment, fiction and live events. He is a journalist by profession, he has a master’s degree in audiovisual enterprise management from the Carlos III University in Madrid, and a diploma in audience studies from the Catholic University of Chile.

Gustavo Fischer y Mercedes Castells

Gustavo Fischer and Mercedes Castells (Uruguay) are lawyers at Egeda. They have doctorates in law and social sciences, and they are members Estudio Fischer Abogados, which works in the areas of intellectual property, the right to technology, entertainment law and competition law.
