Viewfinder Latin America 2014 Premiere

viewfinder logoThe international television channel Al Jazeera English will schedule online on it’s documentary strip, Witness, 8 documentaries produced from the Viewfinder call made in 2013.

In May 2013 the second edition of Viewfinder in Latin America, a program of Al Jazeera English seeking fresh perspectives on filmmakers from emerging regions of the world was held in Uruguay, with the support of DocMontevideo. This time, 530 candidates from all over Latin America applied for this second call, in which 11 filmmakers from 8 countries were selecto to participate in a workshop where they worked on aspects related to the development of the narrative and the production of field in relation with the editing and postproduction.

As a result of this second call, there were 8 documentaries from 6 countries in Latin America that will be available for free online viewings .

Chess, private lessons – Ines Grah y Javier Hayrabedian (Uruguay) – After years behind bars, Luis has to be strategic to stay out of prison. With chess master, Pedro, he is going for checkmate. Premiere: 10 March, 22:30 GMT (+0:00)

Message for my daughter – Julia Zárate (Argentina) – The Mapuche remain a proud people trapped in a society in that has eroded their identity. Inalen wants to change that for her and her daughter. Premiere: 17 March, 22:30 GMT (+0:00)

Driving change – Marcelo Pérez (Argentina) – In Argentina there is the Impenetrable, a region where few sustainable solutions survive. But for Fernando Ibarra it is a wondrous laboratory. Premiere: 24 March, 22:30 GMT (+0:00)

Liberating a prison – Gabriel Vallecillo Márquez (Honduras) – Honduras has become a very dangerous place. For one group, art may be their act of resistance and an abandoned prison, their sanctuary. Premiere: 31 March, 22:30 GMT (+0:00)

Occupying Brazil – Daniel A. Rubio (Brazil) – Isabella is one among thousands turning to the illegal occupation of Sao Paulo’s abandoned high rises as an alternative to life on the streets. Premiere: 7 April, 22:30 GMT (+0:00)
