Ticket to Paradise premiere

tickettoparadiseThe Brazilian documentary Ticket to Paradise from the 2014 Latin America Viewfinder series, will be premiered Monday February 17, 22:30 GMT through live stream on the website of Al Jazeera on it’s documentary strand, Witness.

The documentary, directed by filmmaker Rogerio Soares (Brazil) and selected by the international network through its program Viewfinder Latin America, was selected to open this series of documentaries that shows the intrinsic reality of the continent.

Synopsis

Brazil’s booming economy is drawing migrant labour from across Latin America and the Caribbean. They are lured by the promise of easily obtained working papers and access to seemingly endless job opportunities. This open door policy is especially appealing to Haitians who remain trapped in the aftershocks of their 2010 earthquake. Deep in the Amazon basin there is a gateway for these new workers, the small town of Brasiléia and the gatekeeper is Damiao, a municipal worker. In 2009 he was asked to “help out” with processing the paperwork for these new labourers. It was a job he thought might last a few months. Now, four years and more than ten thousand migrants later he continues to meet the daunting needs of an unceasing flow of desperate humanity.

Repetitions of the documentary by live stream will be the days:

Tuesday – 09:30 GMT / 4:30 ET
Wednesday – 03:30 GMT / 22:30 ET
Thursday – 16:30 GMT / 11:30 ET

The documentary is also available on Al Jazeera English’s YouTube channel.
