Adriana Loeff

Adriana Loeff (Uruguay). Documentalist, journalist. She directed “Hit”, the most watched Uruguayan film in the year of its premiere, and “The Prime of Life”, which received support from The Filmmaker Fund and Sundance, among others. She is an editor and director for international organizations and an editor at the AFP. She was the producer and scriptwriter of a documentary for NatGeo Latino and made coverage for CNN Internacional, Forbes.com and Al Jazeera.

Bruni Burres

Bruni Burres (United States) has worked for more than 20 years at the intersection of art and human rights. Bruni is a senior consultant for the Documentary Program at the Sundance Institute. Previously the director of the Human Rights Watch film festival, Bruni is the co-writer and associate producer of Allende my Abuelo Allende, who won best documentary at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival and the co-writer and producer of Whose Country?

Bruno Santamaría

Bruno Santamaría (Mexico) has a degree in Communication and Cinematography from CCC. He works as a documentary cinematographer and director. Among his works include Margarita, The best thing you can do with your life and Artemio. He has the grant of FONCA and is currently working on his second film as director.

Carmen Guarini

Carmen Guarini (Argentina). Filmmaker and Anthropologist. Dr. by the Univ. De Paris X (France) in Anthropological Cinema under the direction of Jean Rouch (1988). Researcher and professor at the UBA, at the Master’s in Documentary Cinema at the Universidad del Cine and at the EICTV of Cuba. In 1986, together with Marcelo Céspedes, CINE OJO, Argentinean producer, pioneer in documentary film. And he founded and co-directed the DocBuenosAires Festival since 2001.

Carmen Torres (*)

Carmen Torres (Colombia). “Dawn” is her first feature as a director. She is also a screenwriter and director of photography. She worked as director of photography for “Oleg and the rare arts” by Andrés Duque, a film for which she was nominated for the best picture in the Fénix Awards of Ibero-American Cinema (2016); “Los Rubios” by Albertina Carri (2003) and “Luján” by Andrés Denegri. She has also directed television series in Spain, Colombia and Argentina, such as “La clase” (2015), “Meridiano. Art tells the story” (2011) or “Traces. Argentine Art” (2009); and has produced the documentary web series “Signified” (2011-2013).

Claudia Abend

Claudia Abend (Uruguay). Director, documentalist, editor. She directed “The beginning of the end”, “Hit” (official selection of BAFICI) and “The prime of life”, which had its world premiere at IDFA.

Claudia Rodríguez Valencia

Claudia Rodríguez Valencia (Colombia) is a Social Communication with professional studies in Colombia and Italy. Her specialization is in the design and development of educational and entertainment media, consulting for broadcast strategy, as well as acquisitions and sales for overseas audiovisual content. She has 9 years of experience in managing international relations and distribution of content; now she’s running her own distribution & alliances company, Preciosa Media.

Cristiano Burlan

Cristiano Burlan (Brazil) is a film and theater director. In 2005, he founded the company Bela Filmes in São Paulo. Most of his filmography participated in important festivals, such as Havana Film Festival, Malaga Festival, It’s All True, among others. His documentary “Killed My Brother” was the winner of the “It’s All True 2013”, winning the award for the best film by the critics and jury.

Daniel Fernández Melo

Daniel Fernández Melo (Uruguay) has been working at DocMontevideo since 2011, where he served as Market Coordinator and General Coordinator. He has participated as Decision Maker, jury and speaker in different film events, such as Cinergia (Costa Rica), FICCALI (Colombia), Audiovisual Fomento Fund in Chile, Power to the Pixel (United Kingdom), among others. He is a teacher of the Audiovisual Area of the FIC-UdelaR.

Daniel Yafalian

Daniel Yafalian (Uruguay). Composer and sound designer. He works in different areas of the sound for audiovisual production, as well as composing music for films. As sound director he has worked in”25 Watts”, “Whisky”, “Gigante”, “La vida útil”, “Hiroshima”, “El casamiento”, “El hombre nuevo”, “El círculo”, “Tanta agua” or “Avant”, among others. His work has been recognized with several awards, such as Best Soundtrack Coral Award in La Habana Film Festival (“La vida útil”), Best Music Tatú Award (Jornada Internacional de Cinema de Bahia); and Best Sound Award from ACCU (Uruguayan Film Critics Association) for his work in “3”, “El apóstata” and “Hiroshima”. He published the albums “Naturaleza muerta” in 2012 and “Paraísos Artificales” in 2015.

Eduardo Escorel

Heloisa Passos

Heloisa Passos (Brazil) is director, producer and award winning cinematographer. Member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science. As DOP she has worked in several feature, shorts and tv programmes, such as “Viajo porque preciso, volto porque te amo”, “Cinco vezes Chico: o velho e sua gente”, “Mulher do pai”, “Como esquecer” or “Manda bala”. Her DOP work has been awarded in different festivals, including Excellence in Cinematography award at Sundance Film Festival for “Manda Bala”, Best Director of Photography at Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival (2009 and 2016), Gramado Film Festivala (2002 and 2008) or Rainbow Film Festival (2011).  “Construindo Pontes”, her first feature film as director, premiered in IDFA 2017.

Javier Corcuera

Javier Corcuera (Peru) made himself known with his first feature film “The Back of the World”, a film that gathers three stories about human rights violations in the US, Turkey and Peru. The film won the International Critics Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival. His latest film “Sigo Siendo” (kachkaniraqmi) won the Lima Film Festival and won eighteen international awards.

João Moreira Salles

João Moreira Salles (Brazil) was born in Rio de Janeiro in 1962. Founder of VideoFilmes, where he has produced and directed several documentaries that have been awarded worldwide, including “América” (1989), Blues (1990), Nelson Freire (2003), Entreatos (2004) and “Santiago” (2007), which was recognized as Best Film in Cinéma du Réel, Miami Film Festival and Alba Film Festival and Best Documentary of the Year by the Brazilian Film Academy. His last film “No intenso agora” (2017), was launched at Berlinale. Since 2006 he has published the monthly magazine ‘piauí’ which is devoted to long-form journalism.

José Luis Torres Leiva

Jose Luis Torres Leiva (Chile) has directed a considerable number of feature and short films.  “Ningún lugar en ninguna parte” was his first feature documentary. Then came the short film “Obreras saliendo de la fábrica”, selected in more tan 50 festivals and recognized in Zinebi Bilbao; and the documentary “El tiempo que se queda”, which was premiered in Rotterdam and won the Best Feature Film Award in BAFICI. He came back to Rotterdam with “El cielo, la tierra y la lluvia”, his first fiction feature film; which was recognized in the Netherlands, México and Korea. His second feature film, “Verano”, was premiered at the Venice Film Festival. In 2013 he premiered the documentary “Ver y escuchar” (Best Director SANFIC). His latest feature, “El viento sabe que vuelvo a casa”, was premiered in Rotterdam and was awarded as Best Documentary Film in Cartagena Film Festival.

José Ma. Ciganda

José Ma. Ciganda (Uruguay). Filmmaker, Director of Photography. Teacher. He has worked in the documentary, advertising, fiction and television areas. He was Director of TV Ciudad (2001-2002) and Management Advisor at TNU (2009-2010)

Juan Álvarez Neme

Juan Álvarez Neme (Uruguay). Montevideo, 1972. He is a director, photographer and editor. He graduated from the Film School of Uruguay (ECU) in 1999. He founded tarkiofilm in 2008. Juan Barja de Quiroga Losada

Juan Barja (Spain) Co-founder of Abada Editores. Since 2004 he´s the director of the Madrid Fine Arts Circle (Círculo de Bellas Artes). Poet and essayist, he has published Viaje de invierno (1997), La cuchilla en el ojo y otros poemas teóricos (2001), Contemplación de la caída (2001) and Fin de fuga (2004), among others.

Juliana Antunes

Juliana Antunes (Brazil). Born in 1989, formed in Cinema at the UNA, of Belo Horizonte, she is a partner of the production company VENTURA, together with Marcella Jacques and Laura Godoy. Juliana premiered in the direction with the feature film “Baroness”, which had its international debut at the 28th FIDMarseille Competition in France, where it received three awards, including Best Film by the Popular Jury. Currently Juliana develops the project of her second feature film, “Bate e Volta Copacabana”.

Lola Arias

Lola Arias (Argentina) is a writer, theatre director, visual artist and performer. She collaborates with people from different backgrounds (war veterans,  former communists, Bulgarian children, etc.) in theatre, literature, music, film and art projects. Her productions play with the overlap zones between reality and fiction. She  staged, among others, My life after, Familienbande, The year I was born, Melancholy and demonstration, The art of making  money, The art of arriving, Minefield and Atlas of Communism. She does films and art installations. She also created several urban intervention projects with Stefan Kaegi. Together with Ulises Conti, she composes and plays music. She published poetry, fiction and plays. Her works have been shown at festivals including Lift Festival, Theater Spektakel; Under the radar NY; Wiener Festwochen; Spielart Festival; Sterischer Herbst; and in venues like Theatre de la Ville, Red Cat LA, Walker Art Centre, Parque de la memoria, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago.

Lorena Giachino

Lorena Giachino (Chile) was born in 1972. She is a journalist, director and screenwriter. She has worked around 15 years as an audiovisual producer for Chilean and foreign television. As a film director, her debut was with “Reinalda del Carmen, mi mamá y yo” (Chile, 2006). Her second feature film was “El Gran Circo pobre de Timoteo” (Chile-Argentina 2013). She has been a teacher in the areas of direction and documentary script in various universities.

Mariana Oliva

Mariana Oliva (Brazil), graduated in journalism from the PUC-SP and has a master’s degree in documentary directing from the University of Edinburgh. She is a producer and partner of Zeza Filmes. He co-produced with Casa Redonda the documentary film Mi querido Supermercado, awarded by the IDFA Bertha Fund and SPCINE (2017) and the Uruguayan feature film Calle Durazno contemplated by the FONA. She is the coordinator of the DOCSP laboratories and market.

Marta Andreu (*)

Marta Andreu (Spain) is the academic coordinator of DocMontevideo. She is the academic coordinator of the master’s in creation documentary course at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra. She teaches port-graduate documentary film courses at the Universidad Rovira y Virgili in Tarragona. In 2004-2005 she coordinated a Spanish documentary cinema retrospective for Cinéma du Réel. She analyses documentary scripts for the Centre de Desenvolupament Audiovisual. In 2004 she founded Estudi Playtime in order to devote her time to producing creation documentaries. She has a degree in audiovisual communication and a master’s in creation documentary from the Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

Mercedes Dominioni

Mercedes Dominioni (Uruguay) was born in Montevideo, in 1986. She has a Degree in Audiovisual Communication. In 2013 she completed a Master in Editing at the ESCAC (Catalonia) and in 2014 the Master in Creative Documentary (Pompeu Fabra-Barcelona). There she developped “The Creator of Universes”. She worked as an editor in film, TV and interactive projects. She was a teacher of editing and documentary at ORT University. She’s currently working as an editor (Spain, Uruguay and Italy), while developing her second film.

Omar Rincón

Omar Rincón (Colombia) is Associate Professor at the Universidad de los Andes and director of the Center for Journalism Studies CEPER and the Masters in Journalism of the same university. Investigates, produces essays and writes about media and aesthetic entertainment cultures. At this moment he tries to think from and in celebrities citizenships, bastard cultures and pop sensibilities. He works in the crossings that go from the music to the digital networks, from the street joys to the popular globalized flavors. He has an audiovisual essay: Colombians as we are. One of his latest texts: The DJ journalist is the medium. His latest creation: The fog as an audiovisual figure. He is a television critic and a media essayist.

Paola Castillo

Paola Castillo (Chile). Director and producer of documentary films. She is one of the most prominent producers in her country, with award-winning documentaries such as Allende, my grandfather Allende, winner of Best Documentary at the Cannes Film Festival 2015, El Salvavidas, El Gran Circo Pobre de Timoteo, and 74 m2 among others. Executive Director of Chiledoc, organization responsible for promoting the distribution of Chilean documentaries at local and international level.

Paula Gomes

Paula Gomes is director and producer in the brazilian collective Plano 3 Filmes. Among his films, is the documentary “Jonas and the Backyard Circus”, which premiered at IDFA, was exhibited in more than 25 countries and awarded prizes at festivals such as CinélatinoToulouse, MiradasDoc, DocsMx, among others. Currently, Paula is working on her new documentary “Sam”, awarded in the Pitching DocMontevideo 2017, and in the feature film “Son of Ox”.

Peter Mettler

Peter Mettler (Switzerland-Canada) is known for a diversity of work in image and sound mediums – foremost for his multi-awarded films such as “Picture of Light” (1994), “Gambling, Gods and LSD” (2002) and “The End of Time” (2012). but also as a photographer and groundbreaking live audio/visual mixing performer. His work bridges the gap between experimental, narrative, personal essay, and documentary. He has collaborated with an extensive range of international artists and has been honored with awards and retrospectives worldwide. As cinematographer, he has worked with directors such as Atom Egoyan, Patricia Rozema, Bruce McDonald and Jennifer Baichwal, among others; and he has collaborated with several international artists. He was part of the Toronto New Wave filmmakers collective in the 1980s. His last film “Becoming Animal” co-directed with Emma Davie, was launched this year at CPH:DOX.

Raul Niño Zambrano

Raul Niño Zambrano (Netherlands) works since 2008 at the Program Department of IDFA, the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam. His expertise relates in particular to Latin American documentaries and shorts for what he has been invited to many festivals and events as a jury or tutor. He is also the curator of IDFA’s Student Documentary Competition. Other fields of interest include data visualization and multimodal metaphor.

Soledad Castro Lazaroff

Soledad Castro Lazaroff (Uruguay). Filmmaker and writer; film critic. Graduated from the Uruguayan Film School. In 2011 she directed the documentary Falta y Resto 30 years, The Legend. In 2016 she premiered in Canal Encuentro a series called Zero Drama about actors with disabilities, and published her book Poems to clean up the house. She currently writes about cinema in Brecha and works on a documentary about Belela Herrera, a Latin American fighter for human rights.

Verónica Fiorito

Verónica Fiorito (Argentina) has a solid career in the field of producing and directing TV & Film, her training is consolidated with a degree in Audiovisual Production and Management. She has developed a career in cultural management becoming Chief of Staff of the Ministry of Culture of Argentina. She directed and took part in the team that designed and launched the Pakapaka channel, the signal dedicated to children and Canal Encuentro.
