ROUGH CUT LAB is an activity that takes place at DocMontevideo aimed to editors with the focus of reflecting on the assembly process and the role of editor, from the analysis of two documentaries in postproduction.

ROUGH CUT LAB ii 2020

The assembly laboratory, Rough Cut Lab, is a training program for editors. The activity is divided into a master class reviewing the work of the tutor editor, an analysis instance for which 2 documentary projects in the process of editing are selected and a meeting for dialogue between editors. You will be able to participate in the workshop as an observant editor (35 places). The activities will take place between 29 and 30 of July. Registrations for observer editors will be confirmed on a first-come, first-served basis.

The Rough Cut Lab will be held in Spanish. There will only be simultaneous translation into English in the master class, returns and group activity for editors will be in Spanish and there will be no translation.

Ha sido tutor en IDFA, Guadalajara Talent Campus, Dok Incubator, DPI Corea y Docs by the Sea Indonesia. Seleccionado en Cannes, Locarno, Sundance, Toronto, Berlín e IDFA donde tuvo dos películas abriendo el Festival: A Family Affair y Stranded, que obtuvo el premio Joris Ivens al mejor documental.

29 of July: Analysis of Film 1 and Analysis of Film 2

Time: 10:00 – 13:00 (UTC-3) | Duration: 1 hour for each film. | Modality: Conference via Zoom for RCL participant.

The activity consists of two analysis sessions by the tutor Claudio Hugues. In each session, one of the films will be addressed with the presence of the editor, director and the editors who participate as observers. The tutor will offer a return and will enter into a dialogue with each film, deepening the editing process that each documentary is going through to identify narrative problems and solutions. – Exclusive activity for RCL participants –

July 30: Meeting with Editors

CALL for the Rough Cut Lab ll:

Call for observer editors to participate in the Rough Cut Lab of DocMontevideo online in 2020 that will take place during the month of July.

Eligibility: Editors will be able to apply who will be present in the personalized work instances, will have access to the dialogue with the tutor and will be able to participate in the discussions. Up to 35 participants will be selected under this modality.

The Rough Cut Lab will be held in Spanish. There will only be simultaneous translation into English in the master class, returns and group activity for editors will be in Spanish and there will be no translation.

Enrollment in the Rough Cut Lab provides: – Access to the Rough Cut Lab as an observant editor. – Access to all the activities of the Documentary Seminar.

Registration Fee: The cost of accreditation as an observer to the Rough Cut Lab is USD 65- and offers access to the Documentary Seminar. In Uruguay, the registration cost for members of CADU, ASOPROD and Organized Editors of Uruguay is USD 55

Payment can be made electronically through PayPal, or from Uruguay by bank transfer.

¿Qué pasa cuando lo que se pospone es la vida de uno? Delia escribe poemas desde que Jorge, su esposo, cayó preso en dictadura. Estos textos fueron su refugio, lugar donde expresar lo que no compartió nunca, lo que tuvo que dejar a un lado para mantener a su familia. Al finalizar la dictadura la libertad llegó para todos, pero Delia siguió escribiendo y viviendo nuevos encierros. Hoy, Delia me entrega sus poemas para compartirlos con su familia.
